Skokie Fire Department
Message from the Chief
On behalf of the professional men and women of the Skokie Fire Department, I welcome you to the Skokie Fire Department web page. We appreciate you taking the time to visit us and hope you find the website informative and gain an understanding of the pride and professionalism in which our members carry out their duties. Since 1881 our department has committed to fulfilling its mission of providing superior emergency response services to the community.
The responsibilities of the fire service have expanded dramatically since 1881, and in that time, the Skokie Fire Department has evolved into an all hazards emergency response agency. In addition to our primary role of fire and EMS response, we also provide hazardous materials and technical rescue specialized response teams, support fire prevention and code enforcement activities, and provide many public education programs. We work closely with other Village departments and the community as a whole to ensure emergency preparedness and to enhance the services provided to our citizens.
Through the ongoing support of the Village and efforts of our personnel, the Skokie Fire Department is a highly regarded full service agency accredited by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International and holds an enviable ISO Class 1 rating. Our goal is to exceed expectations and provide all citizens and visitors of Skokie with the highest level of emergency response service possible.
The department will observe its 135th anniversary in 2016 and it is with considerable satisfaction that we look back with pride on the department's accomplishments. We pledge to continue to build on the Duty, Honor, Pride and Tradition that are the hallmark of the Skokie Fire Department.
We value your comments and would like to hear from you with any suggestions or ideas regarding our department or this web page.
Again, thank you for visiting and please let us know how we may be of service to you.
We, the members of the Skokie Fire Department, are dedicated professionals committed to safely serving our community by protecting life, property and the environment through prevention, education and emergency services.
Communicating During an Emergency
During emergencies the importance of communications systems becomes clear. The Village has an extensive network of communication avenues to employ during an emergency. Depending on the emergency some of the communication systems may temporarily be unavailable. To address this concern the Village has developed multiple communication avenues.
