Before a vote is taken on any matter, the Mayor requests comments from the audience. In addition, a citizen’s comment section of the Board Meeting is regularly scheduled.

Does the Village Board preside on matters relating to the Library, Park District and schools?

No, the Library, Park District and the schools are separate taxing districts with separate governing bodies.

Why is Skokie a Village and not a City?

Village Officials are elected at large and represent the entire Village. City Officials are elected by precinct or district and represent the area that elected them. Skokie Officials are elected at large and therefore Skokie is a Village.

How many mayors have been elected in Skokie since incorporation in 1888?

The Village has enjoyed political stability throughout its history. Since 1888, only 16 Mayors have governed the Village.
