2011 Village Construction Projects

Downtown Skokie Swift Station
Construction of station for the CTA Yellow Line at Oakton Street is proceeding this construction season for a station opening this winter.
Residential StreetResurfacing
Timetable: April-June, June-July
Resurfacing of several miles of residential streets at various locations throughout the Village. This will be done in two projects.
Community Development Block Grant Resurfacing
Timetable: July-September
Resurfacing of several street sections south of Oakton Street in CDBG eligible areas. An oiled alley within the CDBG area will also be resurfaced.
Skokie Boulevard Streetscaping
Timetable: March-July
Skokie Boulevard received American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds to help pay for the enhancement of Skokie Boulevard parkway between Oakton Street and Washington Street. Improvements include new street lighting and streetscaping improvements.
Intersection of Skokie Boulevard and Golf Road: Roadway Reconstruction Project
This spring, the new traffic signals, new light poles, permanent pavement markings and landscape restoration will be completed. The majority of work for this project was completed last year and includes: water main replacement, storm sewer improvements, street light improvements, and reconstruction of entire intersection including providing northbound and southbound dual left turn lanes.
Intersection of Skokie Boulevard and Old Orchard Road: Roadway Reconstruction Project
Timetable: October-2012
Work is expected to begin late this year on the underground utilities portion of this project. When completed, this reconstructed intersection will have an eastbound right turn lane, northbound dual left turn lanes and traffic signal modernization.
Intersection of Skokie Boulevard and Searle Parkway
Timetable: July-October
A new traffic signal to be installed at this intersection. Additional improvements include a southbound right turn lane and a northbound left turn lane, intersection radii improvements and resurfacing.
Sewer Rehabilitation
Timetable: May-July
One project will consist of sewer lining repairs on Oakton Street between Long Avenue and LaCrosse Avenue and various locations along Crawford Avenue. Another project will focus on smaller point repairs throughout the Village.
Water Main Improvements
Timetable: July-August
Water main replacement on Old Orchard Road from Lawler Avenue to Bronx Avenue and Farwell Avenue from Lavergne Avenue to LeClaire Avenue.
Sidewalk Improvement Project
Timetable: May-June
This maintenance program replaces broken sections of sidewalk. Concrete patching and the replacement of broken curb is included with this project.
High-Priority Patching Program
Timetable: June-July
This project repairs large bituminous patches and berms throughout the Village.
Skokie Multi-Use Path: Oakton Street to Dempster Street
Timetable: June-September
A new bituminous path will be constructed on the existing railroad ballast connecting Oakton Street to Dempster Street. Landscaping improvements are also included with this project.
Illinois Department of Transportation
Timetable: May-November
A number of signals along Dempster Street and McCormick Boulevard are scheduled for safety upgrades, including countdown pedestrian traffic signals.
2010 Completed Construction Programs:
Main Street Resurfacing
Main Street between Skokie Boulevard and Crawford Avenue was resurfaced. The majority of this project used American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds.
Non-Arterial Street Resurfacing
Resurfacing of two miles of residential streets at various locations throughout the Village.
East Prairie / Kostner Avenue Resurfacing
East Prairie Road between Main Street and Dempster Street and Kostner Avenue between Jarvis Avenue and Oakton Street was resurfaced.
Community Development Block Grant Resurfacing
Resurfacing of Louise Avenue between Babb Avenue and LaCrosse Avenue. An oiled alley within the CDBG area was also resurfaced.Sewer Rehabilitation Sewer repairs on Monticello Avenue between Carol Street and Crain Street, Trumbull Avenue between Main Street and Madison Street, Trumbull Avenue from Lee Street to south of Lee Street, Bennett Avenue from Greenwood Street to north of Greenwood Street, Lowell Avenue from Cleveland Street to north of Cleveland Street, and East Prairie Road between Greenleaf Street and Crain Street.
Water Main Improvements
Water main replacement on Lavergne Avenue from Old Orchard Road to Central Street and Elm Terrace from Kenton Avenue to Kilpatrick Avenue.
Sidewalk Improvement Project
This maintenance program replaced over 30,000 square feet of broken sections of sidewalk
High-Priority Patching Program
This project repaired nine large bituminous patches and five berms throughout the Village.
Illinois Department of Transportation
Touhy Avenue from Hamlin Avenue to McCormick Boulevard was resurfaced. Dempster Street Bridge over the Edens Expressway had expansion-joint replacement planned for joint-maintenance and slope wall work. Several frontage roads along the Edens were resurfaced.

Construction of station for the CTA Yellow Line at Oakton Street started.
Pedestrian Way Improvements, Lamon Avenue
The Village installed new street lighting along Lamon Avenue between Mulford Street and Oakton Street. This project provides a strategic walking path between the Oakton Community College and Downtown Skokie.
