Downtown Skokie Example of Well-Planned, Effective Redevelopment
Downtown Skokie is now being viewed as an example of a well-planned, effective redevelopment and proactive economic development. In late June, more than 55 individuals participated in a morning walking tour of Downtown Skokie. Representatives of government agencies, private planning and design firms, and university students learned of the design history behind recent development in Downtown Skokie, including residential buildings with first floor commercial tenants, the Oakton-Skokie CTA Station, and the newly reconstructed streetscape.
Staff members from almost 20 different municipalities were in attendance for this morning event. After the walking tour, 30 participants chose to stay for an optional special event lunch at Libertad. The morning tour and lunch received rave reviews.
