The Skokie Fire Department provides a wide variety of community services and activities in addition to the regular suppression and prevention programs. Included in these are "Boot Day", CPR classes, open house, station visits, demonstrations at public events and block parties.

CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation)
CPR classes are held the third Tuesday of each month form 6:30 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. with the exception of the month of December. Class size is limited to 12 people. Our CPR class is not for health care professionals. We offer a basic class for the lay person. The class covers infant, child and adult CPR. For additional information on other CPR courses contact the American Heart Association at (877) 242-4277. To register for the CPR class you must sign up in person at 7424 Niles Center Road (2 nd floor – Fire Prevention Bureau) between the hours of 8:30 and 4:30, Monday through Friday. A $15.00 refundable deposit for Skokie residents is required (this deposit is refunded upon completion of the course), and a $20.00 non-refundable deposit is required for non-residents.

The Skokie Fire Department Citizens Fire Academy
The Village of Skokie’s Fire Department is offering a Citizens Fire Academy as a new addition to their community education program. The Academy is held Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Fire Station #17, 8157 Central Park Avenue, Skokie. The class will begin on September 9, 2008.

The Citizens Fire Academy is a 10-week session and will cover the Department’s history, fire prevention/education, CPR, fire tactics, emergency medical services, specialty teams, fire suppression, just to name a few.

The Skokie Citizens Fire Academy is available to those who live or work in Skokie. Participants must be 18 years or older. Applications must be received prior to attendance.
