The Skokie Health Department is only one of eight state-certified municipal health departments in Illinois and provides a wide range of services to Skokie residents. The following summaries briefly describe some of our current services, programs, and activities. Administration - The Skokie Health Department provides many public health services for the residents of Skokie. The Administrative Division's services include public education, maintaining a health information library, car seat loaner program, and oversight of the day to day operations of the Health Department including program planning, grant management, budgeting, and personnel management.

Animal Control - The Skokie Health Department provides a variety of animal control services for Skokie residents. Animal control staff are responsible for the enforcement of the Village's animal ordinances. Services include domestic animal control, wildlife control, bee/wasp control, and animal adoption information.

Environmental Health - The Skokie Health Department's Environmental Health Division is responsible for enforcement of several Village health codes. This includes inspections of local restaurants, retail food establishments, nursing homes, day care centers, and day care homes. It responds to complaints of conditions creating a public nuisance or a health hazard. The Environmental Health Division also provides carbon monoxide testing, microwave oven testing, and water testing for Skokie residents.

Personal Health - The Skokie Health Department's Personal Health Division provides a variety of clinics and services for the residents of Skokie. Clinics include Body Composition Analysis, Blood Pressure, Cholesterol, Diabetes, Family Planning, Hearing, Hemoccult, Immunizations, Lead, Lipid Profile, Nutrition, STD, Stop Smoking, and T.B. Nursing staff also provide Health Assessment/Teaching Visits, Travel Health Information, Communicable Disease Investigation/Follow-up, Health Counseling/Referral, and School Health Services.

Birth / Death Records - The Skokie Health Department is the local registrar for all births and deaths that occur in the Village of Skokie. Birth and Death records are maintained for these events from 1969 to the present. Certified copies of these records are available from the Health Department.
