Administration Division

The Skokie Health Department's Administrative Division is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Health Department. These responsibilities include program planning, grant management, budgeting, personnel management, and handling citizen requests/complaints. The Division also oversees the Health Department's health education programs, health information library, and car seat loaner program.

It is the goal of the Administrative Division to assure that residents of Skokie are provided with cost-effective health services. The Skokie Health Department receives a number of grants from the State of Illinois which are used to provide a variety of services that would otherwise require local tax dollars. These grants are managed by the Administrative Division.

The Division oversees program planning and is responsible for the Department's overall budget. The Health Department’s Director approves new programs and modifications of existing programs after careful review. Developing and monitoring the Health Department's budget is an important duty of the Administrative Division.

Maintaining a highly professional staff and responding to citizen requests is another important function of the Administrative Division. The most qualified individuals available are hired to provide public health services in Skokie. The Health Director reviews all personnel evaluations to assure that staff performs their duties professionally. Continuing education and training programs are provided to all staff to help them maintain a high level of competence. The Health Director and his staff respond promptly to all requests for service, public health complaints, or complaints about service received. Response time is often less than 24 hours. The Health Director and supervisory staff investigate all complaints about services in order to identify problems and to prevent recurrences.

The Administrative Division disseminates health information to the community in the form of press releases, NEWSKOKIE articles, the "What's Happening" section of this web site, the Department's pamphlet library, and presentations throughout the community. Health Department staff are available to speak on a variety of health topics. These programs are available to religious, school, and community groups. Educational programs are also periodically offered at the Village Hall.

A unique program offered by the Skokie Health Department is its "TOTS" (Toddler seats Offer Travel Safety) loaner program. Infant and toddler car seats are available for short-term loan to residents at no charge. A deposit of $10 is required at the time of the loan and will be refunded less a $5.00 cleaning charge when the seat is returned in good condition. Seats must be reserved in advance and training on the proper usage of the seat will be provided at the time of the loan. This program is especially popular with grandparents.
