Low Vision Support Group
This group meets on the second Tuesday of every month at the Smith Activities Center, 5120 Galitz. Speakers and exhibits of visual aids are arranged throughout the year, and there is no charge for the program.

NEW Low Vision Support Group
The Human Services Division is forming a new Low Vision Support Group targeting the ages of 18 to 50, but all interested are encouraged to attend. These meetings are tentatively scheduled for the first Tuesday of every month from 2 -3:30 p.m. The exact meeting location is not yet determined, but they will likely take place either at the Smith Activities Center, 5120 Galitz or at the Skokie Public Library. Meeting discussions will include coping strategies, technology information regarding equipment and devices, training availability, advocacy and more. Guest speakers will be arranged when available. News Tapes for People with Visual Challenges
Taped local news cassettes are available at no charge. Each tape is approximately one-hour in length and is sent to the resident with a postage-paid return container.

Lending Closet
The Lending Closet offers Skokie residents the use of canes, walkers, crutches and wheelchairs for periods up to six months. A lightweight travel wheelchair may be borrowed for 24 hours or through a weekend for a $25 deposit that is refunded upon the wheelchair’s return in good condition. A standard folding wheelchair may be borrowed for up to five working days for a $25 deposit that is refunded upon its return in good condition. Standard folding wheelchairs are also available for loan up to six months for a $25 fee that is NOT refunded. At the end of the six-month period, the wheelchair must be returned to the Smith Activities Center in good condition. A driver’s license is required for wheelchair loans. Only one six-month wheelchair loan is permitted per household per year. Please call 847/933-8208 for further information.

Home Delivered Meals
Participants in the Home Delivered Meals Program receive one hot meal daily, Monday through Friday. Meals are delivered between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The meals are delivered by a caring and committed corps of volunteers.
To be eligible for the Program the applicant must be:
A Skokie resident
Homebound
Physically or mentally unable to prepare hot meals
The Program ensures a nutritionally balanced meal five days a week. Beginning November 1, the program cost will increase from $3.55 to $4.75 per meal. Please call 847/933-8208 for further information.

Hearing Loss Support Group
We are looking for individuals with a hearing impairment to join us for our Hearing Loss Support Group. This group meets at the Smith Activities Center, 5120 Galitz at 1:30 p.m. on the second Thursday of every month.
The program’s purpose is to learn about equipment and devices that are used to help those with a hearing loss. Come share your ideas and discuss social events that work well for the hearing impaired. Guest speakers participate when available.
