Pull to the Right and Mind Fire Lanes
The Skokie Fire Department reminds everyone that while preventing fires is important, practicing procedures to assist emergency vehicles is also important. Remember:
- Stay calm
- Look to see where the emergency vehicle is approaching
- Pull as far to the right as possible and stop
- If you cannot pull to the right due to another vehicle or obstacle simply stop
- Drivers should stay at least 300 feet behind emergency vehicles using their lights and sirens
- Do not stop in the middle of an intersection
- Never leave a vehicle unattended in a fire lane
If you have any questions on fire safety, contact the Fire Prevention Bureau at 847/982-5340.

CTA Approved Additional Weekend Service for the Skokie Swift Yellow Line
Beginning Sunday, March 30, 2008 the CTA (Chicago Transit Authority) Skokie Swift Yellow Line will add weekend service. For $1.50, patrons may park in the Village’s North Lot, which is located just north of Dempster Street and accessible from Gross Point Road. The South Lot parking costs $2.00 and is accessible from both Dempster Street and Niles Center Road.

Spring Forward and Test Your Batteries
Daylight savings time begins on Sunday, March 9, 2008 when clocks need to be set forward one hour.
The Skokie Fire Department reminds residents to check and change batteries once a year in all smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors and all emergency accessory kits to make sure they are in working condition. Replace smoke alarms every 10 years for optimal effectiveness. Follow the manufacturer’s recommendation regarding carbon monoxide detector replacement, as all models vary.
Additionally, all Illinois homeowners and landlords must have carbon monoxide detectors in buildings containing bedrooms and sleeping facilities. All residential units are required to have at least one carbon monoxide alarm within 15 feet of every room used for sleeping purposes.
For more information about smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, contact the Fire Prevention Bureau of the Skokie Fire Department at 847/982-5340.
