What are the Village parking regulations?
Pick-Up Truck Parking
Skokie Traffic Code states that no person shall stand or park any truck, tractor, etc., on any residential street for a longer period than is necessary for expeditious loading or unloading of such vehicle. The Code further states that vehicles produced for residential needs but that receive the B Plate Classification from the Illinois Secretary of State, defining it as a truck, are prohibited from parking on residential streets. The Secretary of States Office gives B Plate Classification to vehicles (trucks) with a Gross Weight of 8000 lbs. and less, regardless of whether the vehicle is used for commercial or private (residential) purposes. For further information contact the Engineering Department.
Vehicle parking on private property in residential districts is also regulated. The Villages Zoning Ordinance allows parking cars, motorcycles and stock model vans on private property in residential districts. No other types of vehicles may be parked on private property unless kept in a completely enclosed garage. Residents may request a variance to this regulation from the Zoning Board of Appeals. For more information contact the Community Development Department.
