School Safety and "Officer Friendly"
School Safety programs are administered by the “Officer Friendly,” beginning with preschool. A different section is taught at each grade level. Sessions last up to 30 minutes. Lessons are age-appropriate. For example, preschoolers and kindergartners are taught basics such as how to dial 911 and what to do in case they are lost. In first grade, “stranger-danger” is emphasized. At the high school level, the program deals with relevant information for students who are in drivers’ education programs. The laws of Illinois State are reviewed and students are made to understand that having a license is a privilege.
