September 10, 2019 Village of Skokie Statement – Amazon Logistics
The Village of Skokie is excited about the new state-of-the-art distribution and manufacturing site at 3601 Howard Street developed by the Dallas, Texas-based Hillwood developers on the previously vacant property with an abundance of environmental issues. After full site remediation, the Hillwood team constructed the new 240,000-square-foot facility on speculation. Skokie’s prime geographic location with access to major markets in the City of Chicago and northern suburbs, which initially drew Hillwood to the site, also drew Amazon to lease the site for a new prototype “last-mile delivery station” logistics facility. Amazon Logistics operations are expected to begin in early fall, with operations increasing over several months.
“The Village of Skokie welcomes Amazon Logistics, and we are most excited for the estimated 600 full- and part-time job opportunities the new operations presents to the community,” said Mayor George Van Dusen. “Further, Amazon often sources products from local merchants, and we are hopeful that the new facility also will result in growth for the Village’s business community. Amazon’s presence in Skokie adds welcome new diversity to the Village’s economic base.”
