Don't forget to recycle your pumpkin at the Skokie Farmers' Market on Sunday, November 3 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The Skokie Farmers' Market is located in the parking lot adjacent to Skokie Village Hall, 5127 Oakton Street.
Please remove candles and other decorations prior to disposal and pumpkins painted with acrylic paint are accepted. Can't make it to the Skokie Farmers' Market to recycle your pumpkin? Follow these simple steps from the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County for composting your pumpkin in your own back yard:
• Find a spot in your yard for your pumpkin's final resting spot. (This should be out of the way of daily activity. A sunny spot will speed the composting process.)'
• Place your carved pumpkin in the spot and smash it a bit.
• Cover it with a layer of leaves.
• Let nature do its work. Worms will turn your pumpkin into nourishing compost.
