At the November 10, 2019 Skokie Community Forum, numerous comments were made about fostering good neighbor relationships, and how doing so strengthens neighborhoods. Among the suggestions made at the forum was the idea to collect and publish stories of good neighbors, those who have remarkable stories and make a difference on their block, in their neighborhood and in the community. This suggestion has been communicated to the Village by other residents in recent months.
In response, the Village will soon launch a Skokie Neighbor Profiles series that will appear in upcoming editions of NewSkokie and SkokieNews, and profiles also will be posted in a new section of the Village web site. Who in your neighborhood is ‘a neighbor to know’? Is there an unofficial ‘mayor’ of your block? How do they contribute to a stronger sense of community, to helping others? How will their story inspire others in the community?
Please consider nominating someone you know in the community who you think has a unique, inspiring story and who would want to be highlighted as an example for others. Nominations should include your name, address, email address and telephone number, and the same information for the person being nominated along with a brief paragraph of no more than six sentences on why they are being nominated.
Please send nominations to info@skokie.org or mail to Village of Skokie, 5127 Oakton Street, Skokie, Illinois, 60077, Attention Marketing Division. ■
