Please take the Water Service Line Material Survey.
Based upon existing data, more than 90% of Skokie drinking water lines connecting properties to water mains are made from lead. However, it is likely that many lead water service lines have been replaced with copper since the drinking water system was built in the 1920s. Skokie's drinking water is treated with orthophosphate to coat the inside of the lines and reduce the possible leaching of lead into the water.
In January 2017, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency mandated that community drinking water systems post an inventory map showing the locations of lead service lines, and update annually as lead pipes are removed from the system and replaced with copper.
