October 22, 2021 Update:

On Friday October 22, the Village’s Health and Human Services Director extended the Village’s Public Health indoor mask requirement Order through November 13.   Skokie continues to observe sustained COVID-19 cases in the community, with Skokie’s current community transmission rate “High”.     The Order requires that any individual aged two and older and able to medically tolerate a mask shall be required to wear a mask when indoors in a public place, regardless of vaccination status.   For the purposes of the Order, indoor public spaces include any common or shared space in: (1) a residential multi-unit building or (2) any nonresidential building, including but not limited to retail stores, restaurants, bars/taverns, health and fitness clubs, museums, hotels, personal services, performance venues, movie theaters, commercial buildings, event venues, healthcare settings, congregate facilities, on public transportation and in transportation hubs.

Effective August 30, 2021, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker issued a State-wide indoor mask mandate as cases of COVID-19 and hospitalizations continue to rise. See more information.

See updated mask mandate Frequently Asked Questions document from the State of Illinois.

This follows an indoor mandate from the Skokie Health and Human Services Department effective on August 23, 2021, all individuals over age two who can medically tolerate a mask, are required to wear a mask indoors. The order requires mask wearing in common areas of multi-unit residential buildings and public places, such as restaurants, movie theaters, retail establishments, fitness clubs and on public transportation.

Vaccination, masking in public indoor settings and social distancing remain the most effective means of slowing the transmission of COVID-19.

Skokie businesses are required to post signage that states that masks are required. The Village of Skokie has created a sign that can be posted by employers. Download a copy of the mask order sign.
