On Earth Day, April 22, 2019, the Village kicked off a 100-day campaign to promote the reduction of plastic bags in our day-to-day lives. This initiative is a component of the Sustainability Plan developed by the Sustainable Environmental Advisory Commission (SEAC). Beginning on June 29 and continuing through July, members of the SEAC will hand out “Skokie Recycles” reusable shopping bags, while supplies last, at these locations:
Saturday, June 29 – 12 to 2 p.m.
Marketplace, 4817 Oakton Street
Tuesday, July 2, 4 to 6 p.m.
Walgreens, 9150 Skokie Boulevard
Marketplace, 4817 Oakton Street
Village Market Place, 4034 Dempster Street
Sunday, July 7, 12 to 2 p.m.
Walgreen’s, 3945 Dempster Street
CVS, 4001 Main Street
Wednesday, July 17, 4 to 6 p.m.
Village Market Place, 4034 Dempster Street
Walgreens, 4850 Oakton Street
Friday, July 26, 4 to 6 p.m.
CVS, 4001 Main Street
Current statistics estimate that some five trillion plastic bags will be used this year or 160,000 per second! The percentage of plastic bags actually returned for recycling is very low, at just over two percent. The actions of Skokie residents can make a difference in this global environmental issue. Please rise to the challenge and bring reusable bags whenever you shop!
