What do you love about Skokie? What programs or services are important to you, and what ideas do you have for improving or enhancing Village services and life in the community? In fall 2021, Skokie residents will be able to share their thoughts with the Village as part of the National Citizen Survey that is once again being conducted in partnership with the National Research Center, Inc. in Boulder, Colorado, to develop and administer a professional citizen survey.

If your home has been selected to participate in the 2021 National Citizen Survey, you will begin receiving survey mailings during the week of September 27. If your household is selected, it is very important that you respond!

Village officials carefully consider survey data when making future budget and programming decisions. A total of 2,700 homes were selected randomly from postal code data to participate in the Benchmark survey. All selected households will receive an introductory post card. Shortly after that, some households will receive a five-page, written survey, with instructions that the person in the household age 18 or over, with the birthday closest to the survey’s arrival, complete the survey form. In addition, a link to an online portal will be provided if residents chosen for the survey prefer to respond online. Other selected households receive another postcard and a special online link to complete the survey.

For two weeks in early November, a link to the 2021 National Citizen Survey for Skokie (identical to the Benchmark survey) will be featured on the Village website and distributed through SkokieNews, the Village's weekly electronic newsletter, and all Skokie residents will be invited to go online to complete the survey.

The Village has participated in the National Citizen Survey every three years since 2003. After each survey, the Village analyzes the data and makes recommendations to the Village Board based on the survey results. For example, as a result of resident feedback about the conditions of roadways in Skokie, the Village Board allocates additional funds for street resurfacing each year.
