[ARCHIVED] Electric Aggregation Information Update

Electric Aggregation Letters to be Mailed to 2,000 Households This Week

In August of 2021, Skokie entered into an electric aggregation three-year contract with MC Squared Services.  Contrary to past electric aggregation programs, savings to individual account holders is negligible due to market conditions.  Instead, the benefit of the program is that the Village receives a civic grant to support sustainability initiatives.  The Village will receive its first grant payment in 2022 and those funds have been dedicated for the new Sustainability Plan as well as expedited streetlight conversion from metal halide luminaires to lower-watt LED.  The conversion will reduce electricity usage, saving taxpayers over $75,000 annually and significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to cause changing electricity consumption patterns as residents return to work and school.  Changing consumption patterns can affect whether or not a given account can benefit the grant program.  Additionally, customers move into new homes, condos, and apartments on a regular basis.   Therefore, MC Squared Services periodically reviews accounts to ensure existing accounts are still a benefit to the grant program and to look for new accounts that can contribute.

No action is needed.   All accounts enrolled in the North Shore Electric Aggregation program are charged an electricity supply rate equal to the monthly ComEd rate – in other words, they are not charged any more or less than ComEd customers.  If you receive a letter stating that you will be automatically enrolled, it simply means that your account was selected as one that can benefit our civic grant described above.  If you choose to opt out, please call the number on your letter.  If you receive a letter stating that your account will be placed back on ComEd supply service, that will happen automatically; your supply rate will not increase or decrease due to the change.  Due to changing consumption patterns, your account no longer benefits the grant program – thank you for your past participation.

If you have previously opted out of the electric aggregation program, you will not be resolicited.
