Workforce Training Initiatives Offers Free Short-Term Certificate Program at Oakton Community College
1. The Village of Skokie Health and Human Services Department, in partnership with Oakton Community College, is offering Skokie residents seeking to improve their resume and re-enter the workforce a grant for free tuition for one of Oakton Community College’s short-term certificate programs (15 credit hours or less). To qualify for this program, residents must be unemployed or underemployed and their household monthly gross income must be within 150% of the Federal Poverty Level. Enrollment will continue while funds last.
A variety of certificate courses are available for Microsoft Office programs, Computer Information Systems, CAD training, health careers and much more.
Residents interested in applying for this program must submit an application and supporting paperwork to the Village no later than July 15, 2022. Residents without access to the internet can obtain an application by calling 847/933-8208 or emailing iris.barrios@skokie.org.

2. OCC Workforce Equity Initiative (WEI): The purpose of the WEI grant is to accelerate the time for Black students to enter and succeed in post-secondary education/training programs that lead to employment in high-skilled, high wage, and in-demand occupations. The grant includes full-tuition coverage in select programs, $1,000 stipend and more.
Participants must reside in one of the following zip codes: 60076, 60077, 60201, 60202, 60016, 60714 and courses must be completed by December 21, 2022.
