A strike currently underway by members of the International Union of Operating Engineering Local 150 is now impacting local construction projects in Schaumburg, which has resulted in delays and suspension of projects that are in progress.
Projects affected include:
- Residential Street Resurfacing
- Concrete Street Patching
- IDOT Resurfacing (Oakton Street west of Long Avenue)
- Cook County Resurfacing (Old Orchard Road between Skokie Boulevard and Gross Point Road)
- Old Orchard Bike Path Connections(at Harms Road and Skokie Boulevard)
Minimal work will continue on these projects as can be accommodated with existing materials.
Local 150 is on strike against major material producers and quarries across northern Illinois. The companies produce aggregate materials including sand, gravel and crushed stone that are essential to the production of asphalt, concrete, and many other construction materials. The workers operate heavy equipment that is critical to the routine operations of these facilities.
This delay will impact project schedules, and until the strike is over, the exact extent of the delay is unknown. The village will provide updates to these projects as new information is received.
