Planning to Renovate Your Home Soon?  Cook County Offering Qualified Skokie Home Owners No-Cost (Free) Funding to Help with Home Renovations

Skokie single-family and multi-family property owners that will be renovating housing built before 1978, where a child under the age of 6 lives or visits are encouraged to apply for No-Cost (Free) funding to help with the renovation costs to the Cook County Department of Public Health (CCDPH).  See flier in English and Spanish.

A family may qualify for the grant funded program if:

  1. The home is located within suburban Cook County,
  2. Their income is below the program limit, and
  3. There are lead paint hazards in the home.

CCDPH will work with families to identify any healthy homes and lead paint hazards in their home and contract with a licensed contractor to fix the hazards at no cost to you. Lead hazard repairs typically include: painting, replacing windows, or other home repair work to remove or contain lead paint or address housing hazards.

“Lead is still present in our communities,” said Mike Charley, Skokie’s Director of Health and Human Services.  “Through a collaboration with the Cook County Department of Public Health, we are finding and fixing lead hazards to make children safer and make homes healthier. We are glad to bring this to our residents.”

Owners or renters of housing units built before 1978 where a child under the age of 6 lives or visits is invited to find out more about the program at https://cookcountypublichealth.org/environmental-health/lead-poisoning/hud-grant/ or call Cook County Department of Public Health at 312-590-2895.
