A Skokie resident recently contacted the Village after receiving an email that was not from the Village saying that a ‘boil order is in effect’ with a link to click for more information. Messages of this type are spam or ‘phishing’, with scammers trying to sell something or trick individuals into providing personal information and should be ignored.
If a boil order ever goes into effect in Skokie, the Village would announce the order using all of the usual channels: posting on Village web site home page, including an ‘alert’ bar across the top; issuing a special edition of the SkokieNews electronic newsletter; posting on the Village’s Facebook page; utilizing email, text and phone calls through the Village’s Smart911 emergency notification system, adding a ‘crawl’ message to SkokieVision cable channels 17 and 25 and more.
