On January 19, 2023, the Village's Plan Commission held the first of three meetings to study and develop affordable housing policy recommendations as requested by the Village Board. While Skokie’s percentage of affordable housing is at approximately 19 percent, nearly double the state’s mandated 10 percent threshold, the influx of new residential and mixed-use development has prompted discussions about the future of affordable housing in the Village.
The January 19, 2023 Listen and Learn Session about affordable housing featured speakers who develop and work towards the preservation and creation of new affordable housing development.
See a video of the January 19 meeting. (Note: affordable housing presentations begin at approximately the 16:35 mark.)
The Plan Commission will hold two additional meetings as part of the process to make recommendations regarding affordable housing policies to the Village Board at their March 20, 2023 meeting. Public attendance at the meetings is encouraged. The meetings also will be broadcast live and available for future viewing on the Village’s YouTube channel.
