The Village of Skokie's parkway tree pruning contractor, Advanced Tree Care, will trim parkway trees from approximately February 16 through 24, 2023. e will starting on Thursday this week. They are notifying households today with door hangers. Tree trimming will occur between Main and Oakton Streets from the west Village boundary, Long Avenue, to approximately Kolmar Avenue east of Skokie Boulevard. Residences in the impacted areas will be notified by door hangers.
Some common questions and concerns about the tree trimming includes:
- Do I need to move my car?
If they are working on your block – yes! That is helpful even if they are working on the opposite side of the street. They should be off your block in one to two days. - There was a car in the way and they missed my tree.
They are keeping a punch list, and will return and put up 'no parking' signs so that they can complete the work. - I don’t want my tree pruned or its appearance altered.
Trees are pruned for clearance, deadwood, and structure. No other pruning will occur. It is better to remove low branches when they are small because the pruning wounds to the tree are smaller. If low branches aren't pruned off, they are sometimes ripped off by trucks and sidewalk plows, which can require the entire tree to be removed. The supervisors are certified arborists and they know pruning standards. Work will look a bit drastic on young trees – again the best time to do clearance and structure pruning is when the branches are small. - The brush is still there
The brush will be chipped at the end of the day. Call Skokie Public Works at 847/933-8427 the next morning and staff will let the contractor know.
