On Monday, April 17, 2023, the Village Board approved plans for a 192-unit, multi-family transit-oriented development at 8610 Niles Center Rd.
What is a transit-oriented development (TOD)? TOD creates dense, walkable, and mixed-use spaces near transit that help people drive less and support vibrant, sustainable, and equitable communities.
Parking: 120 parking spaces will be provided on site. Additional parking is available in the adjacent CTA Skokie Swift commuter parking lot.
Location: Adjacent to the Dempster-Skokie CTA Yellow Line and Skokie Valley Trail, the development will provide residents with convenient access to jobs and commercial, retail and entertainment facilities in Skokie and beyond.
Benefits: Benefits of the development include:
- Returning this property to the real estate and property tax rolls, supporting local school districts, police, fire and Village services.
- Adding 10 designated affordable housing units at 80 percent area median income, and welcoming hundreds of new Skokie residents to our community.
- Meeting Green Globes building certification to reduce environmental impacts, as well as complying with the Village’s Bird Strike Mitigation regulations.
