Skokie has fun from morning until night on the Fourth of July!
Fourth of July Parade
Thursday, July 4, noon - rain or shine! The parade kicks off at Oakton Community College, 7701 Lincoln Avenue, at noon and continues east on Oakton Street to Oakton Park, 4701 Oakton Street.
Spectacular Fireworks Show
An evening of music, picnics and dazzling fireworks takes place at Niles West High School, 5701 Oakton Street. The grounds open at 5 p.m., musical entertainment begins at 6:30 p.m. and the fireworks show begins at dusk.
The Skokie Fire Department reminds the community to leave fireworks to the professionals. In 2017, at least eight people died and nearly 13,000 others were injured badly enough to require medical treatment after fireworks-related incidents, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. While the majority of these incidents were due to amateurs attempting to use professional-grade, homemade or other illegal fireworks or explosives, thousands were from less powerful devices like small firecrackers and sparklers. The best way to stay safe from fireworks is not to use them!
Have a happy and safe Fourth of July!
