Can I request a trap for animals burrowing on my property?

Yes, but Animal Control does not recommend using traps given traps are baited with various foods such as peanut butter, bread, nuts, seeds, fruit, tuna fish, cat food, sardines, etc. Using a trap oftentimes attracts more wildlife to your property creating new wildlife problems for you.

Instead, Animal Control strongly encourages residents to “harass” animals off the property instead of trapping. Click here for details regarding animal harassment techniques.

In instances where a trap is issued, residents are responsible for picking up the trap from the Skokie Police Department front desk located at 7300 Niles Center Rd., Skokie, IL 60077. It is required that you sign a trap agreement before a trap is issued. Click here to see a copy of the trap agreement. Residents are responsible for baiting and setting the trap per the trap agreement.
